Developing Silent Readers
Silent reading has been shown to be an activity that students find enjoyable. This enjoyment leads to positive attitudes towards reading. Since student motivation is a key factor in reading achievement, silent reading is a common practice in classrooms. However, it is essential for educators to recognize the progression students make in achieving mastery of silent reading as it is not an innate action.
